Valentine’s day is supposed to be a day of love and romance, but for many, it ends up being more stressful than anything else. Over the years Valentine’s day has developed into a pretty big deal for a lot of people, especially women. There are countless movies that romanticize it like crazy, and the media pushes it so hard as a day that is supposed to be special. Businesses love it as it’s an excuse to have a big sale and make extra money on love-themed items and products. The intense advertising of said products only adds to the pressure that a lot of men feel to do something on this day, and to do something spectacular. It doesn’t have to be a day of stress though, and neither do any of the days leading up to it, if you are properly prepared.
The first step is to talk to your partner about the day. If you are in a fairly new relationship and this is your first valentine’s day together, you may not know how they feel about it. Knowing their thoughts and desires will help you decide what to do, and it may just take a lot of pressure off. You might find that it’s not quite as big of a deal to your partner as you thought. There are also a lot of different options for the day. Some people might really want a nice dinner and movie out. Others may prefer to stay home and just spend some quiet time together sharing undivided attention. Knowing their preferences will help you a great deal as well.
If you do have a partner who places a great importance on Valentine’s day, or perhaps it is important to you, then start planning the day ahead of time. Depending on what you and/or your partner want to do, you may want to put aside a little money just so you’re not stressed out when the day arrives. If you are going to go out for lunch or dinner, make reservations ahead of time so you’re not scrambling last minute. If you are doing something after dinner, plan that too. Leave nothing to chance that night and have a solid plan in place.
Valentine’s day is also an excellent opportunity to finally pop the big question to your significant other, if your relationship has reached that stage. It’s the perfect day, because the tone is already set. The day is already going to be romantic, no matter what you do. Make sure you and your partner really are ready to take things to that next level. You don’t have to ruin the surprise, but make sure you have at least talked about it with them. Once you’re sure it’s the right thing to do, it is time to start planning the perfect proposal! Once you have secured a yes, you will officially have a wedding to plan! It should go without saying that this is a huge job, and acquiring a wedding planner like the one and only Mrs. Valentine is always a great way to go! You can find her here.
